Posting Guidelines [HTML tips, codes, faq]

Hello there, friends!

As some of you have already pointed out, HTML can be a bitch, especially when you're new to platforms like Dreamwidth and Livejournal. Worry not, though, because right under this cut you'll find more about:
  • HOW TO ADD A CUT TO YOUR POST
  • HOW TO WRITE A SPOILER TEXT
  • HOW TO ADD AN IMAGE TO YOUR COMMENT
  • HOW TO ADD A LINK TO YOUR COMMENT
  • HOW TO ADD A GLITTER TEXT TO YOUR COMMENT/POST
  • HOW TO ADD SPARKLE TEXT TO YOUR COMMENT/POST

HOW TO ADD A CUT TO YOUR POST:

When posting an entry on Dreamwidth, you may want to add a cut to keep our page as clean and readable as possible. While we do encourage you to post pics/gifs/10k dissertions on Matt's butt (I AM ONLY HUMAN AFTER ALL, BEAR WITH ME), we also want to make sure that everyone can scroll the page and check the other posts as well. So, just like I did for this entry, there's a simple trick to "cut" your post.

This is what you'll see when you're writing an entry. Make sure you're writing in Rich Text format or the little icon bar won't show at all.
To "cut" your text all you have to do is selecting it first and then click on the CUT icon there (I put it in a wonky square). Add a text to your cut, if you want (it will show like a link on the page) and you're done.

If you're feeling adventurous, or if the Rich Text editor is being a lil shit and your cut is not working (yes, this happens), you can also enter the HTML code for your cut manually. Switch from "Rich Text" to "HTML" and add this code:

<cut text="CUT TEXT, EXAMPLE: MORE UNDER THE CUT"> actual stuff you want to put under your cut (pics, videos, gifspam, dissertation, article, whatever) </cut>

BONUS:

Look at the picture above - you see the square icon with the... I dunno, I think it's a mountain or something? Well, that's what you want to click on if you want to add a picture to your post. You're welcome. :D

SPOILER TEXT:

THIS IS A SPOILER BOO
Can you read that? No? Well, the whole point of "spoiler text" is that you can't read it... unless you select it. Here's how to get it:
<span style='background: #000000; color: #0000000'>THIS IS A SPOILER BOO</span>

ADDING IMAGES TO YOUR COMMENTS:

Cheer up, pal! It's easier than it looks, and we're here to help anyway. This is the HTML code to add an image to your comment:

<img src="IMAGE URL.PNG/GIF/JPEG">

Upload your image/gif on the web (we suggest imgur, or tumblr), or copy the URL from an image that has already been uploaded (right click on the pic/"copy image's URL"), copy/paste it in there et voilà, from this:

<img src="http://i.imgur.com/A8I6a29.gif">

To this:

ADDING LINKS TO YOUR COMMENTS:

Another easy one. This is the HTML code you need to enter in your comment if you want to post a link:

<a href="url">link text</a>

ADDING GLITTER TEXT TO YOUR POSTS:

As Muse fans we feel somehow obliged to post sparkly/glittering content. Plus, glitter is fun. #needsmoarglitter

To get a proper Glitter Title/Text like this:

All you have to do is find a Glitter Text Generator online (such as this one: Glitter Maker) and create your own glittering title (you can choose font, size, style, it's everything there). Copy/paste the URL like an image et... voilà!

SPARKLE TEXT FOR YOUR ENTRIES/COMMENTS:

You can also add a glittering background to your text - no glitter, no party, is what I say. Example+codes here:

SEE THIS? IT'S PRETTY, INNIT?
<table><tr><td border="0" background="http://i29.tinypic.com/e1935d.gif"><big><big><big><big><big>SEE THIS? IT'S PRETTY, INNIT?</td></tr></table></big></big></big></big></big>

NO SPARKLES, STILL PRETTY
<table><tr><td border="0" background="http://i33.tinypic.com/5akf1x.gif"><big><big><big><big><big>NO SPARKLES, STILL PRETTY</td></tr></table></big></big></big></big></big>

PINK SPARKLES

<table><tr><td border="0" background="http://i33.tinypic.com/v2ww93.gif"><big><big><big><big><big><big><font color="#FFFFFF">PINK SPARKLES</font></td></tr></table></big></big></big></big></big></big>

PRETTY PINK

<table><tr><td border="0" background="http://i34.tinypic.com/2zi4pr5.gif"><big><big><big><big><big><font color="#FFFFFF">PRETTY PINK</font></td></tr></table></big></big></big></big></big>

RAINBOW!!!

<table><tr><td border="0" background="http://i38.tinypic.com/fdhame.gif"><big><big><big><big><big><big><big>RAINBOW!!!</td></tr></table></big></big></big></big></big></big></big>

AND AN EVEN EASIER CODE TO ADD MORE SPARKLES TO YOUR COMMENTS:

LOOK AT THIS, MORE PINK

<font color="WHITE" style="background-image: url(http://i46.tinypic.com/315h3m0.jpg); font-size: 35px;">LOOK AT THIS, MORE PINK</font>

PINK PINK PINK

<font color="black" style="background-image: url(http://i48.tinypic.com/2vn1e28.jpg); font-size: 50px;">PINK PINK PINK</font>

A NICE ORANGE/RED GRADIENT

<font color="black" style="background-image: url(http://i45.tinypic.com/14jqoh1.jpg); font-size: 50px;">A NICE ORANGE/RED GRADIENT</font>

MORE BLACK CUZ WE'RE ALL DEAD INSIDE

<font style="background-image: url(http://i48.tinypic.com/28jvbwj.jpg); font-size: 50px;" font color="#FFFFFF">MORE BLACK CUZ WE'RE ALL DEAD INSIDE</font>

Let us know in the comments if there's anything else you'd like to see explained here - we just want to make things easier for everyone! :D
